go remote, go wild, go local

Our Mission

Is to create world class cycling experiences and trail networks for riders of all levels including e bikers that restore and protect the regions biodiversity and history. To explore our craggy tops, steep slopes and unique locations on two wheels with a sustainable and economic benefit to the Coromandel Peninsula and our community.

We are a group of volunteers with a passion for two wheels, the outdoors and our biodiversity within it. We are creating cycling experiences for locals and visitors showcasing the uniqueness of this special part of the world we call home.

Back in the day when polypropylene was cool, merino wasn’t yet invented and no one had even thought of an
e-bike, a group of mates were clambering down a mine shaft in the middle of the night looking for hidden gems. It was damp, cold, dark and scary as heck. To distract themselves, they started thinking out loud.. one of them had an idea. That idea was to build a place where local kids had some purpose, a place to hang out and some cool jumps to ride. Imagine if we had a bike park here in Coromandel town they pondered as they tramped through waist deep icy water. Might be a bit warmer than this? replied another.

Want to spend longer in the Peninsula and looking for somewhere to ride? Here’s some of our other local spots:

Whangamata Bike Park - Set in a mixture of native bush, pine forest and some recently cleared forest terrain, riders at Whangamata Ridges Mountain Bike Park will experience purpose built flow and single-track, exciting downhills and climbs that reward the effort with spectacular views of ocean and forest.

Located just five minutes from the Whangamata Township on State Highway 25, the park offers something for everyone, from the first-time rider to experts looking to be challenged.

Thames MTB Parks
The Thames Mountain Bike Club has several areas of tracks. One is the Moanataiari mountain bike trails directly behind Thames, the other is the Hotoritori mountain bike trails in the Kauaeranga Valley. Thames MTB is working to create epic back country trails.

The Northern Coromandel Walkway and Mountain Bike Trail is one of our favorite Epic Mountain Bike Missions. Best ridden in a loop from Stony Bay to the top (500m climb) and back to Stony Bay via Poley bay, this is a sensational ride for experienced riders and an ebabes delight. By parking or camping at Stony Bay and riding the hill initially you get amazing views and once you’re at the top, then  around 11km of downhill. This ride is not for rail trail riders and is classed as a grade 5 ride. It is remote, steep and for those riders with good fitness level. Its old style riding at its best.
