Shaping the single trails begins

Amazing to see what is being created beneath the gorse!

We've started the next phase which are the dedicated Cross Country Trails. These will be two loop trails that will start and finish from the Kauri Dieback Wash Station, opposite the skills track area, and the bottom of the jumps tracks.

They will be grade three single trail and hopefully will showcase some of our amazing native bush, biodiversity and areas of cultural heritage and areas of significance.

There has been a lot of work behind the scenes before these trails could be built, collaboration with the Land Owners - Te Patukirikiri Iwi and Department of Conservation and the Spirit of Coromandel Trust have all been heavily involved in the planning and delivery of this community asset. So its a major milestone to see these trails starting to take shape.

As many community members will know, the area has also been planted in Kauri trees (the first over 20 years ago) by members of the Spirit of Coromandel Trust.

We are excited to also create the first dedicated Kauri Die back wash station for bikes and are about to install in in the next weeks.

Every Kauri trees location was GPS'd before we could plan where the trail goes, and the trail has been designed to allow the growth of the Kauri trees in the future. That’s why its important to stay ON the track when the trails are built - and OFF the Kauri Trees.

For now, we have a loooongg way to go, but we have started and we are very proud of what its going to be like when its finished.

The area is currently a worksite with the guys from #trailpro working at warp speed to create the beautiful berms and rollers.. so please STAY OUT of the area for now, as there are multiple hazards on the site.

Walking on the track is a no go, as this damages the track while its bedding down and takes longer to fix the track.

For now, please enjoy the jumps park and the pump track and get your old bike out of the garage and grease those chains and pump up your tires.. this is going to be fun when its ready to ride.

Here's a few pictures of what its shaping up to be. Thanks for your patience Coromandel!
