Coromandel Pump Track Open

The inaugural Coromandel Pump Track Open attracted a strongly contested women’s field with some super fast qualifying times, impressive was young Katja Stupar with a 21.68 and Lily Greenhough with a 21.39 was that enough to push Tokyo Olympian #308 Rebecca Petch in the finals?.

The under 14 males had come to race hard, were they going to beet the Banks Brothers? Bennett Greenough had come to the initial track opening back in 2020, he did an unofficial 19.86 but Sundays event was windy and had a late race the night before. We were excited to see the big boys being pushed time to roll!

The first time a Pump Track event has been held in the Coromandel and likely not the last if the competitors feedback was anything to go by. The Ride Coromandel Pump Track has been built on the old landfill and this location was a new one for many first time riders to the park. Local artist Rebecca Pearson hand made the ceramic medals with recycled materials and each rider went home with a little of the Coromandel closer to their heart as a result. Massive shout out to Destination Coromandel, Velosolutions New Zealand, Kids Ride Shotgun and Andrews Property Services, Coromandel 4Square, for their support of the event and our local volunteers.

Lock in Anzac weekend 2023 for the next Coromandel Pump Track open!
